For Immediate Release (Lancaster, Kentucky): On March 13th, the Bluegrass Area Development District, Central Kentucky Career Centers, and Garrard County Economic Development Director Nathan Mick teamed up with Lancaster, Kentucky Company, Sustainment Solutions Inc. (SSI), to host a job fair in Garrard County for 37 Contract Field Service Positions in Afghanistan and 2 local management positions, allowing SSI to open its headquarters in Lancaster

SSI provides installation, maintenance, and training of x-ray security equipment for United States Government (and other) entity’s worldwide. SSI was recently awarded a contract with a leading X-ray security systems manufacturer to supply technicians to Afghanistan to maintain their systems under a federal contract. Through this award, SSI contracted and deployed local and national technicians to sustain these systems starting in June.

Of the 39, 8 are from Kentucky, spanning Garrard, Boyle, Lincoln, McCracken, and Madison counties. SSI was able to use the Central Kentucky Career Centers’ job fair resources and services to find these local individuals. All of the technicians deployed through SSI receive compensation over $100,000.

With the addition of 39 to the current global staff of 11, SSI’s workforce is now 50, with 5 working out of the new Lancaster office.

Garrard County Economic Director Nathan Mick was instrumental in the success of these deployments.

“Without Nathan’s help we could not have been as successful putting local people to work,” says Scott Shinn, SSI’s CEO. “And although the local numbers are small, we’re excited to be able to add any revenue to the local economy by opening our office in Lancaster.”

SSI was started just under 3 years ago by Scott and Amanda Shinn in a basement office of their home and has grown to a company which manages a combination of 50 employees/contractors…and counting. SSI’s new office is located at 152 Pleasant Retreat Drive in Lancaster. The office is owned and outfitted by local businessman Danny Irvin. Irvin has been instrumental in the transition from a home office to a professional state of the art working environment.

“SSI shopped the local area for office space and Mr. Irvin was the only person who could supply the needs and demands of SSI that was cost effective. He has been truly an asset to the opening of our local office,” says Shinn, “along with local leaders like Garrard County Judge/Executive John Wilson and Nathan Mick.”
