Frankfort, KY — Continuing its tradition of being a statewide leader, the Heart of Danville Main Street Program took top honors at the 2012 Kentucky Main Street Awards hosted by the Kentucky Heritage Council.
The event, which was held on Wednesday evening at the Grand Theater in Frankfort, brought revitalization professionals from across Kentucky to celebrate a year of successful initiatives. With a theme of “Shiny New Year, Full of Opportunity,” the program encouraged, inspired and acknowledged Main Street Organizations.
As part of the awards recognition, The Heart of Danville was recognized, along with Henderson as the two oldest programs in the state, both celebrating 25 years of downtown revitalization.
The Heart of Danville’s weekly “E-News” was highlighted as one of three “best” examples of downtown marketing in the Best of Marketing Promotion 2012.
The 2012 Best Organization Award was given to the Heart of Danville Board of Directors, recognizing the strategic planning process in 2011. Becky Gorman, State Main Street Coordinator said, “The planning process is unprecedented, giving the public and many naysayers an opportunity to get involved in Main Street, have their voice heard and watch the program embark on a process to take Danville to the next phase in downtown development. Heart of Danville is now poised to move forward with a new sense of energy and purpose.”
The Kentucky Heritage Council announced the creation of a new award that recognizes what great things can happen when all four points of Main Street have been successfully implemented and integrated. The Award for Excellence in the Main Street Four-Point Approach® for 2012 was created by the Kentucky Main Street Awards Committee, a group of your peers, who believed there was an organization worthy of such an honor. Acting Kentucky Heritage Council State Preservation Officer, Lindy Casebier said, “Danville is a rock star in the Kentucky Main Street Program. The Heart of Danville continually seeks new ways to do better, be better, and do right by their community.”
Casebier gave credit to Executive Director Julie Wagner by saying, “The Main Street director is a leader and mentor for other communities and routinely teaches “Main Street 101 to new program managers.” Wagner presents the Main Street 101 training to new managers and boards across the state.
Heart of Danville will celebrate these successes along with many others at the organization’s 25th Anniversary celebration on February 29th at 6 p.m. Information on this event will be listed online at www.downtowndanville.com.
