The 2012 Danville Lawn Chair Film Festival is set for dusk tomorrow, Friday, May 18 at 9:00 PM at Constitution Square Historic Site, Main Street and 2nd. Bring a lawn chair and get ready for the best Danville Lawn Chair Film Festival ever. Winners of the 2011 Danville Lawn Chair Film Festival: The Golden Lawn Chair Award: “Mr. Duffy Finds a Friend” – Christian Loftus and Brenna Howard won the grand prize of the evening, materialized in an actual golden lawn chair, for their short and truly innovated stop motion animated piece utilizing cardboard cutouts. Best Drama: “Fair Trade” – Elisa Plattilero and Molly Hoy won for their 8-minute drama shot entirely in Danville’s own The Hub Coffee Shoppe and Café. Best Comedy: “Le Salle de Juex” – Tim Miller’s spoof of French cinema had the audiences howling and took home the award for best comedy. Heart of Danville’s Lawn Chair Theater is back for 2012 by Your KY Home

Danville, KY – It is once again that time of year! The Heart of Danville Main Street Program will once again host the Lawn Chair Theater Summer movie series! Set to begin this year on Friday, June 22 and continuing through Friday, Aug. 10, the HOD will show movies in Constitution Square on Friday nights beginning at dusk. The movies are open and free to the public, with concessions available for purchase. Proceeds from the Lawn Chair Theater will benefit downtown revitalization and beautification. Here is the 2012 line-up: June 22: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (Rated PG-13) – in honor of the Heart’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. The film was released the same year (1986) that HOD began. There will be free popcorn that night for all movie-goers. June 29: “Despicable Me” (Rated PG) July 13: “Field of Dreams,” (Rated PG) sponsored by Farmers National Bank. Great American Dollhouse Museum Added to “There’s Only One Kentucky” by Your KY Home

The Great American Dollhouse Museum has been added to the list of “There’s Only One” places and things that form the basis of Kentucky’s 2012 tourism marketing campaign. The Danville fixture and 12 other attractions around the state were selected recently from applications submitted to the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism. The 13 new attractions join the original 31 announced last December when “There’s Only One Kentucky” campaign kicked off. “There’s Only One” differentiates Kentucky from other destinations by emphasizing attractions and events that travelers to and within the Commonwealth can experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Heart of Danville organizes Downtown Cleanup Day by Your KY Home

May is preservation month and as part of the celebration, the Heart of Danville is organizing a Downtown Cleanup Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 18. Volunteers are needed to help do some minimal cleaning, sweeping, and picking up trash in our downtown area, as well as clean the log Cabins at Constitution Square Park. The HOD seeks to preserve our state historic site, as well as clean up for the thousands of visitors that will flock to downtown Danville for the 2012 Great American Brass Band Festival. People should bring their own work gloves, and the HOD will supply all cleaning materials necessary. Those interested should call (859) 236-1909 or e-mail. Volunteers can work as much or as little time as they would like and are not expected to work the entire day.
