Christmas Tree Lighting in Danville

This past Friday, an enthusiastic crowd of local residents gathered in Downtown Danville for the annual Christmas tree lighting and parade. Sponsored by Heart of Danville and made possible by the efforts of the Danville Fire Department, this event gets bigger and better every year.

At 6PM, Danville mayor Hugh Coomer flipped the switch that lit up the tree in front of the courthouse and illuminated downtown with holiday cheer. A reception followed at the Community Arts Center. Then, it was time for the parade. And what a great parade it was! The Boyle County High School Marching Rebels, the Danville High School Marching Admirals, antique cars, floats by church and community groups, and finally Santa himself riding atop the Danville Fire Department’s Ladder truck.Santa then proceeded to the Community Arts Center where a long line of excited children awaited him. There were cookies and cider and wonderful community spirit. What a great opportunity this was to get out, have a great time and meet with friends and neighbors.

Won’t you join us next year when the tradition continues?
