Our addiction to oil is destroying our environment and placing our financial future in jeopardy. And like so many other forms of addiction, many of us are in denial. But the warning signs are there, spurring a movement to save America’s future led by former Vice President Al Gore and oilman T. Boone Pickens and including almost all credible scientists. No matter who wins the Presidential election in November, he will be greeted with a myriad of problems to contend with. One of those problems is the $700 Billion bailout of America’s newly nationalized financial sector. But that $700 Billion pales in comparison to the $7 TRILLION dollars we will be transferring to countries that don’t even like us over the next ten years if we keep up our current energy strategy. Watch this video where oilman T. Boone Pickens explains how that transfer of wealth will be disastrous to our nation and how we can build a bridge to a new energy future starting today. And while you’re at it, visit WeCanSolveIt.org to learn more about how we can free ourselves from foreign-imposed slavery and solve the climate crisis once and for all. This isn’t just about oil or [...]

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 9, 2008 (that’s this Sunday). I love that extra hour of daylight in the evening but it makes for some dark mornings here in the Bluegrass until the days get longer as Summer approaches. Throughout its long and fascinating history, daylight saving time has had a remarkable impact on a wide variety of unexpected areas – from Middle East terrorism to feuding twin cities, voter turnout to time-change riots, radio stations to trick-or-treaters, and opera performances to manslaughter charges. There are quite a few great stories involving DST and it’s effects. here are just a few. Indiana Indiana has long been a hotbed of Daylight Saving Time controversy. Historically, the state’s two western corners, which fall in the Central Time Zone, observed DST, while the remainder of the state, in the Eastern Time zone, followed year-round Standard Time. An additional complication was that five southeastern counties near Cincinnati and Louisville unofficially observed DST to keep in sync with those cities. Because of the longstanding feuds over DST, Indiana politicians often treated the subject gingerly. In 1996, gubernatorial candidate Rex Early firmly declared, “Some of my friends are for putting all [...]

Thieves across the country are targeting trees in the latest crime wave to hit the American people and environment. These dastardly criminals are illegally cutting down valuable trees for timber, often targeting elderly property owners. The problem is becoming a serious environmental issue and an increasingly common problem for landowners. Thieves can make thousands of dollars by cutting down just a few trees, while they’re highly unlikely to face criminal charges if they’re caught. Most prosecutors consider the crime a property dispute to be settled by civil courts. At least one state is trying to change all that. After a rash of timber thefts in the state, Kentucky has introduced legislation to make cutting down another person’s tree a felony punishable by one to five years in prison. Another bill will also attempt to take away a typical defence for illegal loggers, who… Read the rest of this article »
