Frankfort, KY — Continuing its tradition of being a statewide leader, the Heart of Danville Main Street Program took top honors at the 2012 Kentucky Main Street Awards hosted by the Kentucky Heritage Council. The event, which was held on Wednesday evening at the Grand Theater in Frankfort, brought revitalization professionals from across Kentucky to celebrate a year of successful initiatives. With a theme of “Shiny New Year, Full of Opportunity,” the program encouraged, inspired and acknowledged Main Street Organizations. As part of the awards recognition, The Heart of Danville was recognized, along with Henderson as the two oldest programs in the state, both celebrating 25 years of downtown revitalization. The Heart of Danville’s weekly “E-News” was highlighted as one of three “best” examples of downtown marketing in the Best of Marketing Promotion 2012. The 2012 Best Organization Award was given to the Heart of Danville Board of Directors, recognizing the strategic planning process in 2011. Becky Gorman, State Main Street Coordinator said, “The planning process is unprecedented, giving the public and many naysayers an opportunity to get involved in Main Street, have their voice heard and watch the program embark on a process to take Danville to the next [...]

By Patti Nickell — Contributing Travel Writer – Lexington Herald-Leader Just because you think you know a place, don’t assume it has nothing new to offer. Here are a few new (and good) reasons to visit, or revisit, some old favorites in the new year… …About a half-hour drive from Lexington, Danville is fast becoming a go-to destination, thanks to several new restaurants and entertainment venues. It’s the town’s Community Arts Center, however, that will lure parents and their junior astronauts from Jan. 5 through Feb. 26 with the exhibition Space … Imagine That! Developed by the Houston Museum of Natural Science in conjunction with Rice University, the exhibit will feature soaring spaceships, monster storms and raging rivers — all within the family-friendly confines of the center’s Discovery Dome.
