A typical seven foot Christmas tree requires one gallon of water a day! Use warm water mixed with two ounces of antibacterial mouthwash the first time you water a tree. The warm temperature helps open the tree’s circulatory system so that it draws water more easily, and the mouthwash kills bacteria. For subsequent waterings, use room temperature water.

To make needles last: At the third or fourth watering, add one ounce of maple syrup to the water. The syrup’s sugar feeds the tree and makes the needles a more vibrant green.
